Color Me Intrigued

A quick detach dust cover? May have to pick one of those up. Wish it came in crazy colors, though (tactical brown isn’t a crazy color, sorry).

I’m not a programmer, but

I’ve enough exposure to programming that I can empathize.

“You can’t restart the internet. Trillions of dollars depend on a rickety cobweb of unofficial agreements and “good enough for now” code with comments like “TODO: FIX THIS IT’S A REALLY DANGEROUS HACK BUT I DON’T KNOW WHAT’S WRONG” that were written ten years ago. I haven’t even mentioned the legions of people attacking various parts of the internet for espionage and profit or because they’re bored. Ever heard of 4chan? 4chan might destroy your life and business because they decided they didn’t like you for an afternoon, and we don’t even worry about 4chan because another nuke doesn’t make that much difference in a nuclear winter.”

Seriously, every paragraph in that article is quotable. I think it’s something worth reading for everyone, to help you get an appreciation for how insane this foundation for our entire way of modern life is.

Hat tip to my brother, who originally sent it to me, and to Borepatch, for telling me to post it.

Quotes and Links of the Day

I did meet a real racist once in my life, who actually thought the ‘White’ race (by which he meant Prussians) were superior to all others. Perhaps I could count this as an accurate accusation, except for the fact that he was accused of being a racist on the grounds that he was a conservative (he was not) and not because he was a racist (which he was).
–John C. Wright

While other countries might be happy suckling on the benevolent teat of a neo-Marxist government, those countries are not filled with Americans, and we have a different dream for how our lives should be.
–Weer’d Beard

Not a quote, but go look at this from Borepatch. And then remember that I have a whole category for Bacon. And then I might remind of this situation four years ago. That was at least a year off my life, right there in one box.

And then, SpaceX has released some fragmented video that shows their lower stage actually firing it’s engine right before splashdown, and are inviting the internet to try to patch the data together a little better. Crowdsourcing space!

Libprogs want conservatives to be silent. Conservatives want libprogs to keep talking so the world can see just how full of shit they are.

Gun Linky!

Displaced Louisiana Guy lays down the gunny gauntlet, and I can happily say that I fulfilled his requirements earlier this week!  Throw down a picture of your EDC gat, and link back at him, won’t you?  I feel a decided lack of linkery lately, and this seems a fine way to lead away from it.  And since we’re talking about carry pieces, I made a new header the other day and it will be featured exclusively for a day or two.

The entirety of the history of the Roman Emperors distilled into one sentence

From DaddyBear:

“It is better to be loved than feared, but it is better to be feared than to be murdered and thrown in a river.”

There is this resounding remark after every atrocity that invariable makes the rounds of “I don’t want to live in a world where principals and teachers have to….”

You already do.

I like Mas

“The meme seems to be, “If you carry more (more powerful ammo, more cartridges, even more guns) than I do, you’re paranoid. And if you carry less than I do, you’re a pathetic sheeple.”

Oh, good Lord…”

You mean, there’s something new from SHOT that isn’t another AR or 1911?

Something that looks funky, is affordable, and for my favorite little pistol–I may just have to try it out. The Ergo J frame grip!

Is… that… legal?

I don’t know how, but I stumbled across this article about Andre the Giant and his drinking habits.

“You won’t find it in the Guinness Book of World Records, but Andre the Giant holds the world record for the largest number of beers consumed in a single sitting. These were standard 12-ounce bottles of beer, nothing fancy, but during a six-hour period Andre drank 119 of them. […] Think about it: 119 beers in six hours. That’s a beer every three minutes, non stop. That’s beyond epic. It’s beyond the ken of mortal men. It’s god-like.”

An entertaining read.

Quote of the “Catching Up On News”

“If Guy, Bloomberg, or Crump had ever met 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in life, and called him a helpless “child” to his face, I strongly suspect Martin would have kicked them in the balls.”

From the most recent Vexxarr:

“That’s the beauty of democracy. If you can get everyone busy enough voting they will never see what it is you are really trying to do.”
